Equipment & Ingredients
- One (1) – 16 oz or larger glass “mason-style” jar with a new lid
- 1/2 oz fresh peppermint leaves. Source fresh peppermint from your local farmer’s market or neighborhood garden. Consider growing your own.
- 4 fl oz 190 proof Food Grade Ethanol. Source some at CulinarySolvent.com
- 4 fl oz filtered water
Recipe Steps
- Preparation: Remove stems from flowers.
- Combine: In a clean glass jar, combine 1/2 oz fresh peppermint leaves with ethanol and filtered water.
- Agitate: Stir or shake briefly to ensure total coverage of alcohol throughout leaves. Shake tincture every couple days while waiting.
- Wait: Set jar of tincture aside in a cool dark cabinet for up to 2 weeks.
- Strain: Using a fine mesh strainer, separate leaves from liquid. Keep liquid, discard leaves.
- Done: This peppermint tincture is finished.
Storing Finished Peppermint Tincture
- Vessel: Store peppermint tincture in an amber bottle with tight fitting lid.
- Storage Location: Cool and dark like a cupboard or refrigerator door.
- Approximate Shelf Life: Use within 3 months for maximum aroma.
